Magazine Development 👷‍♂️👷‍♂️

Here is the development process for my magazine. I will put all of my ideas here and reflect on the decisions that I make.

Genre: Culture

Sub-genre: Crisses (Keris)

I've decided to choose the title "Keris" because my content would be covering about keris in general context and not from one specific region only, as Kerises culture is still similar but yet has some differences in some of its element, such as the history, beliefs, and the chanting/prayer for the rituals. 

The sub-masthead would be "The True Nature of Indonesian Art" to specify that this magazine would be covering the Indonesian version of the curvy blade as in some countries they also have similar culture to it, the word "art" is added as I want people to think that Keris is not only just a weapon or talisman but also an art who has their own artist and permanent owners. Keris also hold many philosophical, symbolical and religious meaning behind it, that is what I want people to understand about.

I've decided to choose two title  "Menteng - The Holy Forging" and "The History of Keris" as the main cover lines. I imagine this magazine as the first volume of my own series, in which I've pick a topic that introduce the main idea of what Keris is and how it is made in the first place, this is a method of penetration in order for my reader to get to familiar with the topic and the main idea. By discussing the History and how the way keris is made through "Menteng" , it will make people wondering or curious of what it is, how is it made, where is it orginated, etc.

On the main cover, I want a single picture. 

How challenging it would be?

Another reason I chose this topic is because it is easy to get fresh pictures and I don't need to think harder on who will be my model as I can ask my dad or myself to be the model. On top of that, I have a quick access to the main object as my family kept it inside the house. So taking a picture of it would not be a problem. My family is surrounded culturally for so long, meaning that our knowledges for this topic are vast and not niche. 

Double page idea:
My Idea is that I want the DPS for my magazine to be all black on the background, and the whites on top it, like the font. For me, the black background connotes formality and seriousness as my magazine main audiences would be older people searching information and surveillance which what will be mainly covered inside my magazine. 

To enhance the content, the looks and the format of the magazine, I would need a keris magazine. From that on, I can conform and could subvert some elements to make it fresh and "new" from the old magazines that had been produced.
